Side-Eyeing Period Poverty Since 2022

It's 2025, and period poverty is still a thing. Toronto is one of the world's most diverse and progressive cities, but so many young people still struggle to access basic menstrual supplies. Seems a little out of touch, yeah?

We're two women who believe in the power of community action, grassroots change and true work on the frontline. Instead of waiting for systemic solutions, we're taking matters into our own hands, starting right here in Toronto. Our passion for supporting young women and giving back to community drives everything we do with The Red Alert.

Last year, we successfully supported 8 teens with a full year of period supplies. The impact was immediate and meaningful, but we knew we could do more. For 2025, we've set lofty goals that include bringing on two more distribution agencies, deepening our community connections and doubling our reach.

We believe that period poverty isn't just about access to supplies – it's about dignity, spreading awareness, and creating spaces where young people feel supported and empowered.

This definitely isn't a charity in the traditional sense – it's women supporting young women, neighbours helping neighbours, and community members recognizing a need and stepping up to meet it.

No bureaucracy, no overhead costs – just direct action and tangible results.

FAQs

Donation Information

Q: How can I donate to Red Alert 2025?

A: You can donate period supplies directly through our Amazon Wishlist. The link will be available on our website and social media channels once the campaign launches on July 21, 2025.

Q: How can I make in-person donations?

A: While our Amazon Wishlist is the primary donation method, we do accept in-person donations of new, unopened period products. You can drop off donations at our designated collection points during specific dates that will be announced on our social media channels and website. Please ensure all donated items are new, unopened, and within their expiration dates.

Q: Will I be acknowledged for my in-person donations?

A: Absolutely! We value all our donors equally, regardless of donation method. When making an in-person donation, you'll receive a donation receipt form where you can indicate how you'd like to be acknowledged (by name, anonymously, or with a specific dedication). All in-person donors will be recognized on our website and social media channels unless they choose to remain anonymous.

Q: Do you accept monetary donations?

A: We do not accept monetary donations from individuals as we are not a registered charitable organization and cannot issue tax receipts.

Q: Where are the donated supplies sent?

A: All donated supplies are sent to a single secure location where they are sorted, packaged, and prepared for distribution. This centralized approach helps us efficiently manage inventory and ensure equitable distribution.

Q: How will I know my donation was received?

A: When making a donation through our Amazon Wishlist, please include a gift slip with your name or initials (whatever you're comfortable sharing). We'll acknowledge all donors on our website unless you specify that you wish to remain anonymous.

A: As we are not a registered charity, we cannot issue tax receipts for individual donations of supplies
