Is your kid a bonafide introvert, just a little shy, or not experiencing much luck in the friendship department? This can actually be a good thing when it comes to party planning - smaller numbers = freedom of possibility.
Quality Over Quantity
Let's flip the script on what makes a "successful" party.
We think “birthday party” and instantly a colourful space filled with children and balloons comes to mind, but we’ve actually seen some of the best parties take place with less than 10 participants. Think of it like a VIP experience!
Creative Party Ideas For Small Groups:
Movie Theatre: This is tried and true, we recommend to go all out on the VIP theatre experience (recliner chairs, 3D etc), be prepared to spend more than you’d probably like to at the concession stand, lol
Playdium/Arcade: For kids who are a bit older, this is a great option. Load up their playcards with funds, go grab a spot in the seating area and let them play away! Most arcades will have pizza on site and you can call ahead of time to get their cake policy
SkyZone: We haven’t met one child that doesn’t love SkyZone, it’s a one-time admission fee, grab some grippy socks and you’re ready to go. The beuaty of SkyZone is that kids spend hours jumping, it’s the perfect way to tire them out
Indoor Play Park: The ideal option for younger children as these spaces tend to be a little more secure. Be sure to call ahead of time to reserve a small room if you’d like to bring cake and food. Since we’re talking small parties in this post, stick with the smallest room.
Amusement Parks: Tweens! This is totally their thing; a trip to the amusement park, rollercoasters and funnel cakes.
Master Chef Junior Experience: Research the mid-higher end grocery stores in your neighbourhood as many of them offer facilitated party packages for small groups and kids cooking classes
Art Studios: Head to the local art studio (book ahead of time) or transform your space into a mini art gallery with our “Canvas Painting” Party. Fewer participants means more materials to work with and kids can make more than one.
Pro Tips:
Create personalized goodie bags with each child's name and favourite things
Take time to capture quality photos and videos of everyone enjoying the celebration
Don't shy away from including family members! Cousins, siblings, and neighbours can add that perfect energy boost to the celebration
Focus on what your child loves most. Whether it's dinosaurs, art, or science experiments, lean hard into that theme
Let your child help plan the celebration. When they're invested in the planning, they're more likely to feel excited about their special day, regardless of the guest count. Here’s a link to our Kid Friendly Party Planning Worksheet
Wishing you the best of luck!!
